Food ShortageOne of the most serious famine in North Korea happened from 1994 to 1998. The cause for the famine was the loss of Soviet Support, causing the downfall in food production and food imports. This was also worsened by droughts and floods. Up to 3.5 million people died due to that famine in 1998.
